Are the skyrocketing gas prices stretching your wallet? Would you like to tell someone in the government how this affects you? In this article I've listed some tips to save gas AND links of elected officials to let them know how the rising gas prices are affecting YOUR life. I've also linked the Department of Energy price gouging link. If all Americans filled this out, it may raise some visibility to the issues. Please follow the tips for gas savings.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Creativity

Step1
CHECK GASBUDDY.COM - To find the lowest price of gas along your driving route.
Step2
FOLLOW THE SPEED LIMIT - Typically each 5 miles over 60 MPH is spending .20 cents more per gallon. If you have cruise control, use it so your speed will be consistent.
Step3
REDUCE EXCESS WEIGHT FROM YOUR VEHICLE - Removal of 100 pounds will reduce miles per gallon to almost 2%. Take off the rack on the roof if not needed.
Step4
DON'T IDLE - your vehicle for long amounts of time, cut the car off.
Step5
DO MAINTENANCE - on your car – replace air filters regularly. Keep your tires inflated properly.
Step6
COMMUTE - This can cut you cost of gas in half – or MORE, if you carpool with more than one person. Get out there and find someone to share a ride with. Invite a neighbor to the grocery store, or to run errands. In my office, we're telling each other where we're going for lunch so we can combine errands.
Step7
TELL your elected officials, Senators, Congress Representatives, Department of Energy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the many links below.
  • It may get worse before it gets better.
  • Don't forget your elderly neighbors, or folks on a fixed income - this crisis may hit them very hard. See if you can piggy back some errands for them.

on 5/29/2008 Good tips. We are over $4/gallon here. Thinking of buying a moped like my son did.

on 5/28/2008 Gas just hit $4.00 a gallon here, so these are really appreciated! (Won't it be funny to look back on these comments in six months and laugh at how CHEAP gas was then?)
