How to Make a Dot Chenille Baby Blanket
This is a super simple and easy blanket to make that is super soft and cozy. A great project for a beginner or experienced sewer and a wonderful baby gift!
Things You'll Need
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- 2 pieces of soft and comfy Chenille fabric found by the baby flannels at JoAnns. (see picture for example)

When you get home, pre-wash and dry the fabric on normal cycle.

4
Place the second fabric face down over the first and try to line them up as best as you can. The right sides of the fabric should be facing each other.
-
5
Using a strait edge and quilt cutter/rotary knife, trim the edges so that the blanket has straight edges that match up.
-
6
Pin all around the edges of the two fabrics, securing them together.
-
7
Now simply use your sewing machine, begin making a 1/2 inch seam around the entire outside of the square, leaving about a 10 inch opening on one of the sides.
-
8
Reach in through the opening and pull the blanket right side out. Use a wooden spoon handle if needed to push out the corners.
-
9
Once the blanket is turned out with the right sides of the fabric showing, finish the opening by folding the raw fabric in to the blanket a 1/2 inch, pin to secure the edge and hand stitch closed. You could also use the sewing machine and create a seam as close to the edge as possible.
-
10
Now for the finishing touch, sew a seam about a half inch in from the edge around the blanket. A straight stitch is easiest if you are a beginner with this fabric, but you might want to consider using a decorative stitch for this finishing touch.

You could use chenille on one side and flannel on the other. Or use flannel on both sides rather than chenille.
