Things You'll Need:
- A free Digg account
-
Step 1
Sign up for an account with Digg. It's free!
** See link in resource section under this article -
Step 2
Log in
-
Step 3
Click the 'Submit New' new button. You'll find this on the top right hand side of the Digg homepage.
-
Step 4
Enter the url (website address) of your website in the appropriate blank in the next window that will come up. *see photo to left
-
Step 5
The next area says 'Choose Media'. You will click one of the little circles depending on the type of page you are submitting.
Image - any type of textual based website, article, news story, blurb, etc
Photo - Photos or graphics which really have no other content
Video - This one is self explanatory.. videos! youtube, metacafe, etc -
Step 6
Click 'continue' button
-
Step 7
Fill in the title and description in the blanks provided.
This is what visitors will see when they are making the decision on whether to click on your link or not so make it short and to the point. Make use of good keywords. -
Step 8
Choose a thumbnail in the next area. This is a small version of a photo to represent your link. This will be shown to the left of your link. Digg will automatically throw up pictures there it feels you could use or you can choose the 'no thumbnail' option if you'd rather not use a photo at all to display near your digg link.
-
Step 9
Choose a topic. Click the radio button (circle) which most closely resembles your submission.
This is how Digg organizes it's submissions. Choose wisely as this is also one way Digg users can search for interesting websites they may want to look at based on their interests. -
Step 10
The next thing will be a preview. This is to show you what your submission will look like on Digg.
-
Step 11
Type in the symbols you see in the box at the bottom. This is a common way to protect websites such as Digg from being abused by robot operated scripts (evil spammers!).
-
Step 12
Click 'Submit Story' button
-
Step 13
Now a window will flash saying it's checking for duplicates. This is to make sure someone else hasn't already submitted this page to Digg.
-
Step 14
A window will come up asking you to review a list of sites that may be duplicates of the one you are trying to submit. This is normal, don't worry.
-
Step 15
Preuse the sites listed to be sure your's is original and then click "It's original, I swear" at the bottom.
-
Step 16
A page should now appear that says Success! Your story has been submitted.
Congratulations, you did it!
** The page used in this demonstration is my brother's website showcasing his Newfoundland dogs. Link in resource list if your curious. -
Step 17
Now to ask other people to Digg your story as well. (the more diggs, the more traffic you will get)
** See my other article 'How To Send Shouts on Digg' to do just that. :)
