Stuck trying to find the perfect theme for your next party? I've listed the first steps for coming up with the party that your friends will be talking about for years to come!
Choose the Date and Location of your event. Write down the general look of the location and forecast the weather.
eg. Summer. Country Club.
Step2
Choose the formality of the party. Formal sit down, casual buffet, trendy cocktail party, etc.
eg. Semi-Casual Buffet for a class reunion.
Step3
Next, use these references to guide you through the decision process.
Flowers in season. Favorite locations. Current Fashion trends. Favorite things to do. Favorite stories. Nearby Holidays.
Be creative!
eg. Modern Whimsical.
Step4
Now that your creative juices are flowing, look at the list you've compiled. If you're not going for the "All the colors in a crayon box", choose a primary color you will use, then choose a complimentary accent color.
eg. School colors for graduated class. Black and Yellow. We added a secondary color to give it a punch, pink peonies.
Step5
Your list should now be narrowed to a few components. Take this list and define it to the limits of the location of your party. Use a substantial portion of your decorating budget for tables that your guests will be sitting at.
eg. Black and white table cloth, yellow natural silk runner, and pink hydrangea centerpieces.

When purchasing for your party, make sure that you stick to your list, don't deviate from your good idea. Too many concepts can destroy the theme.
Always create a prototype model table before you start purchasing for your party.
