Handy things to take to labour ward on top of what they tell you to take. . These are suggestions on what to take to labour ward to make for a more comfortable birthing experience. . Have a beautiful birthing experience. Remember it is your experience so make it what you want & never be afraid to ask questions.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Your own pillow - the hospital pillows are plastic covered, everytime you move they crinkle and make noise. There is nothing nicer than sinking your head into you own soft pillow that has your smell.
  • Squirter bottle - wet washers are great but what is even nicer is a squirter bottle (only a few dollars)put it onto mist and you can be misted with cool water.
  • Socks with the rubber dots on the bottom - your feet will get cold so keept your feet warm & safe (the rubber dots stop you from slipping)
  • Chupa Chups - important to keep up your energy so sucking on chupa chups can help, the best thing about chupa chups is that they have a stick so when you get a contraction someone can hold onto it.
  • Stress ball - they can be very good for squeezing when you have a contraction, it helps save peoples hands & fingers.
  • Disposable camera with flash - many people forget to bring their camera, your baby will never look the same as it did at birth so a disposable camera at the bottom of your bag just incase you forget t
  • Music - take some familar music to listen to. Silence can be a terrible thing sometimes making time drag on, music can help ease the mood.
  • Moisturising cream - when massaging & rubbing for long periods of time our hands can get pretty sore. To help your support people to be able to massage for longer moisterising cream helps.
  • Water bottle with a spout - they are great for having quick sips of water, there is no balancing tricks and you can get the bottle into out of your mouth quickly. (Much easier than a cup)
  • Stretchy incontinence pants - they may look pretty daggy but they are much easier to use than pads & undies. They help prevent leaks and are more comfortable to wear.

Step1
Have a bag seperate for labour ward. This will make it much easier to find what you want in labour.
Step2
When packing, sometimes less is more. Most women don't stay in hospital very long now and there is always someone from home coming in everyday. If you forget something just get someone to bring it in.
Step3
Don't take valuables to hospital and the valuables you do take don't leave they hanging around because they won't last long & those photos are priceless.
