Having a five year old son with A.D.H.D. is not always easy but it is not a curse. We do not see him as "disabled" in any way, we see his A.D.H.D. as a gift. These are a few practical suggestions that have helped us keep him medication free and focused.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • time
  • energy
  • patience
  • love
  • understanding
  • and a little faith

Step1
Make the least chaos possible for his environment
Step2
Take time to listen to him/ one on one time
Step3
consistently discipline him. Give him boundaries so that he knows that each action has a consequence every time.
Step4
Give him options. For example "If you do X, Y is going to happen but if you do A, B will happen.
Step5
Focus on the positive always.
Step6
Praise, praise and more praise
Step7
Always let him know he is loved no matter what.

Tips & Warnings

  • Allow yourself to learn with him
  • Don't get discouraged if you don't get it right every time
  • seek outside help
  • seek others who will support you
  • look at his diet- sugar and red dye are real A.D.H.D. triggers
