How to Tell When He's Cheating

When looking for signs of cheating, remember that his relationship with another woman may not be physical -- it could be emotional. 1. Take note when he works late for no discernible reason and he has no clear explanation why. Watch his paycheck for increased income if he's paid hourly. Know the mileage to and from his workplace and check his odometer to see if he's suddenly begun driving a lot of extra miles.

2. Watch to see if he begins to do his own laundry, particularly if helping with the laundry is uncharacteristic. This could mean he is trying to hide stains or another person's scent. Check the pockets of his jackets and pants for slips of paper containing a phone number you don't recognize.

3. Observe his appearance and whether he is changing it for the better. For example, if he joins a gym without mentioning it to you, it could be a sign he is getting in shape for someone else. Pay attention if he buys new clothes, including underwear, starts wearing cologne, despite rarely wearing it in the past or gets a new hairstyle.

4. Document dates and times of hang-ups and wrong numbers on your home phone and note if it happens to your significant other, too. Watch to see if your boyfriend or husband makes and takes calls out of your earshot, such as in another room or outside. Note his body language if he brushes you off or is vague when asked with whom he was speaking. Look to see if he displays a defensive stance, like crossing his arms and avoiding eye contact. These could be signs of guilt.

5. Look for signs of increased Internet use. Observe to see if he abruptly closes computer windows when you come near and if he uses the computer often after you've gone to bed. 6. Scrutinize bank statements to see if deposits in your joint accounts become lower. Look over credit-card statements for unusual charges. Both of these can be signs of cheating, because having an affair costs money.

7. Notice his sudden lack of interest in what's going on your home. Take heed when he is more prone to starting arguments with you and leaving the house -- without returning for hours. Ask where he went to see if he's forthcoming with a believable answer.

8. Detect changes in your sex life, such as a drop-off in frequency or sudden increase in frequency. Take particular note if he makes requests for uncharacteristic sexual acts, as this could mean he learned them elsewhere.

9. Pay attention if he begins forgetting important life events, such as missing your birthday or anniversary. Not caring about the events, or about your feelings, could signal he's withdrawing from the relationship emotionally.
