Step 1
Rollerblading is very popular and can be a great form of exercise. You can rollerblade on your own street, go to a park, or check your local yellow pages for an in-line skating rink. Don't forget to wear safety pads and a helmet!
-
Step 2
Go biking. You can ride your bike in your local area go to a park, or if you are more advanced then you can go in the woods where there are rugged trails.
-
Step 3
You can go camping throughout the year, but summer is a great time to go. You can go to a campground or camp in the woods where there is no electricity or running water.
-
Step 4
Go hiking in the woods. You can do this in your area, local parks, and state or national parks. You can hike on a designated trail or make your own route. If you plan on going off course, then make sure you have a compass, map or other method to get you back to where you started. Take water with you and a cell phone if there is service in the area.
-
Step 5
Go berry picking in the woods. Some farms allow you to pick your own strawberries. They are very cheap this way and it is fun so I would highly recommend it.
-
Step 6
Plant a flower, herb or vegetable garden in your yard. You could even make this into a fun family project. You can save a lot of money on groceries if you grow your own herbs and vegetables.
-
Step 7
Go swimming. Obviously the pool is a great way to cool off and have some fun. Don't miss out on pool time during the summer.
-
Step 8
Go on a picnic in the park or even in your own back yard. This can be fun for the family or even an individual. Take a good book and treat yourself to a picnic.
-
Step 9
Go see a movie at the drive-in. If you still have a drive-in theater in your area, take advantage and go see a movie.
-
Step 10
Join a sports league. Many towns have adult sports leagues with various sports to choose from. If your town doesn't have one, then try to organize a group of people to play a sport.
-
Step 11
Cook out on the grill and have a few friends over. One of the best things about summer is cooking on the grill. Use it as an excuse to have a few people over to relax and talk.
-
Step 12
Have a big barbecue with lots of people, games, etc. Everyone loves a good summer party.
-
Step 13
Take leisure walks down the street or in a scenic park. It is good exercise and very relaxing.
-
Step 14
Go to the park with the family. The kids will love the playground equipment and you can sit and watch and read a book or chat with a friend.
-
Step 15
Go out for icecream. Who doesn't love icecream? It's a great way to cool off and is a good excuse to get out of the house.
-
Step 16
Fly a kite. This can be tricky if you don't have a lot of wind. If you are going to the beach, make sure you take a kite with you.
-
Step 17
Fly a remote controlled airplane. Kids love these things...and so do adults. Just try not to hit anyone.
-
Step 18
Go to an amusement park or waterslide park. These places have something fun for everyone. Make sure you visit new ones to experience different rides. Going to the same one every year can get boring.
-
Step 19
Go to fun centers that have games, go carts, batting cages, etc. These places are fairly cheap and you can go for as little or as long as you want. There is no ticket to buy like at an amusement park. You pay for the games and activities individually.
-
Step 20
Go to the zoo. Most people like the zoo, especially when there are baby animals.
-
Step 21
Be a tourist. Take a weekend trip or full vacation and visit a new place. If you have a ski resort nearby, check to see if they have an alpine slide. Those are really fun. Make sure you take a trip to the beach. You can't go through the summer without going at least once.
-
Step 22
Go winetasting. Check to see if you have a winery within driving distance or use this an excuse for your weekend trip. Some restaurants have winetasting events too.
-
Step 23
Have some fun with water!! Have a water battle with hoses, water balloons and super soaker water guns or run through the sprinklers. Get a slip-n-slide and have a blast!
-
Step 24
Play frisbee. This can be pretty general or you can get a group going and play a game.
-
Step 25
Go cave exploring. Some places offer guided cave tours and others let you roam free during business hours.
-
Step 26
Go rock climbing. Since this is such a dangerous sport, this isn't something you should start on your own. You will want to research where you can get proper training first.
-
Step 27
Go canoeing, sailing or white water rafting. White water rafting can be intimidating, but I've heard there are places that you can go where the rapids are mild which would be good for beginners.
-
Step 28
Go waterskiiing or boating. If you don't know anyone that has a boat, then see where you can rent a boat and skiing equipment.
-
Step 29
Go bungee jumping or skydiving. Select a reputable company that offers good instruction and always puts safety first.
-
Step 30
Go horseback riding. Cowboy hats are optional.
