Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Different stains call for different actions. I purchased a book called Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean by Linda Cobb and have not had any problems with stains ever since. This book does not give reference to get out detergent stains but tells how to get fabric softener stains out which is very similar if not the same. It says for spots from liquid fabric softener, you should rub with undiluted liquid dish soap. Liquid dish soap will also help pull up splattered grease stains from cooking. One thing that I personally find helpful is using a soft bristled baby brush to rub in stain removers.
Step2
Relaunder the clothing with the longest cycle including the presoak. There are several other things you can try but one of the biggest factors is the color of the clothing article. Not all of these stain removers are color safe. Liquid dish soap is okay to use on different colors.
Step3
If that doesn't work, another thing you may want to try is blot the stain with cool water. Then blot with a sponge dampened with a teaspoon of white vinegar (not for cottons or linen).
Step4
Another step you can try is to blot with your sponge dampened with cool water and a teaspoon of ammonia. This is also not for use on cottons or linen though.
Step5
These are considered mystery stain removers. For all types of material, you can try to blot with a sponge dampened with a mixture of rubbing alcohol diluted 50/50 with cool water. Or Brilliant Bleach is a color safe alternative.
