How to Get the Zune Software to Recogonize Your Music Collection

How to get the Zune software to recognize your music collection. There will be 2 parts to this, first will be getting your Zune software to repopulate the library with all your music. Second will be getting the Zune it's self to update.

Things You’ll Need:

• Zune software
• computer
• Music collection

1. First Screen ***Adding collection of Music to Zune Software Library***
   First if you do a new install of the software, you have to tell the software what folders to look in for the music. So open up your zune software.
2. My Collection Once the software opens, click on settings and choose 'Collection'. Then click the 'Add Folder' button next to the Music section. In the window that comes up, select the location of your music. Then just click 'Apply', and click 'OK'. Your Zune Software library will auto populate, and depending on your music collection will take quite a few minutes to finish.
3. Device screen ***Songs on your Zune not showing in the Zune Software***
   If you have reinstalled your Zune software, and already have music on your zune, and the zune software is not showing anything on the zune. Then, only way I could find to get it to show what was on your zune correctly was by erasing all the songs off the zune and then reinstalling them.
4. ***Songs on your Zune are showing in the Zune Software***
   If your zune software shows songs on your zune, and you want them in your zune software collection again, then you can click and drag the songs/playlist into your collection in the 'Device' Screen.

Tips & Warnings

• If you want to make reinstalling the Zune software faster, then backup your Collection's database. This is found in the 'C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Zune' and is called ZuneStore.sdf. Just make a backup of it and save it somewhere, then after you reinstall the software, repalce the file with your back up and all your songs will be back.
• Will lose all current songs on zune if you erase them to reload the zune.
