Stage the Exterior of your House
Stage the Exterior of your House

You are ready to sell your house, but is the outside looking as good as the inside? Here are some tips to stage the exterior of your house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Your lawn should be vibrant and alive. Annuals are the best way to bring color to your landscape. Water regularly to keep everything looking good.

  2. Step 2

Repair or paint your exterior. Check to see if the trim around your windows need fresh paint or your front door. Repair any concrete damage or your front door bell. Replace lighting with a new fixture or add shutters to make your house look up to date.

  3. Step 3

Accent your garden beds with fresh bark or add stones around a tree bed where the grass is no longer growing.

  4. Step 4

If you have a porch large enough for a seating area, add a chair and a cushion. Adding a chair under a large shade tree is a nice touch, too.

  5. Step 5

Reduce clutter like bicycles and sports equipment and excess chairs. If you have a side yard get rid of any clutter there, too.

  6. Step 6

Cut back overgrown shrubs and dead branches and pick up yard debris, such as dead leaves and rotting fruit. Don't forget to get rid of any broken planters and put new flowers in the good planters. If you have an overgrown shrub that is blocking a clear view to your front door or any windows, now is the time to trim it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep cutsey things such as plastic rabbits, lawn flags or ceramic birdbaths to a minimum.
