This article will help you clean legos. Whether you are dealing with dusty displays, a soiled bulk lot of lego bricks from ebay, or unwanted printing this article will help you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Soft white cloth
  • Can of compressed air
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • warm water
  • brasso
  • isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
Step1
Let’s start with dusty creations. If you have a dusty creation that you do not wish damaged the best cleaning solution is to use a dust cloth, and compressed air can such as those sold at electronics stores. This is great for getting into those hard to reach places. The soft cloth can be used for general cleaning and will not scratch the bricks
Step2
Next we will move on to more heavily soiled legos. If dirt is clinging to the bricks begin with a basin of warm water and half a tea spoon of dishwashing liquid. Do not make the water hot as this could damage your bricks. Let the bricks soak for a few minutes, then scrub with your soft white cloth. Run the cleaned bricks under cold or warm water, dry and place on a flat surface to air dry.
Step3
For extreme cases you can use rubbing alcohol to clean extremely dirty bricks. Keep the exposure to the alcohol brief and use care. This can work wonders, but as a collector makes me a bit nervous. I suggest it as a last resort.
Step4
For those parts with unwanted printing brasso is a good choice. This gentle abrasive can remove printing, and with careful use will not damage the brick. It is possible to remove the printing while leaving the brick’s shine.

Apply a small amount to the printed area of an otherwise clean brick. Rub *gently* in circular motions with a soft white cloth. Repeat as needed until the desired result is achieved.

Tips & Warnings

  • When using brasso be gentle!
  • Remember, when it comes to alcohol and brasso a little goes a long way.
