How to Walk Back to Your Desk without Spilling your Coffee or Tea

You have your drink. Of course your mug or cup is almost full; maybe a little more than you wanted? Now your challenge is to get it back to your desk without spilling it on the floor. Relax...you can do this with a little counteraction!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Full Mug
  • A desire to move from the coffee pot to your seat
Step1
Remember that your brimming, balanced mug or cup doesn't need much to disturb it. But you do have to carry it as you walk. Your steps forward jostle the coffee back and forth in the direction you are walking. Because it's a liquid, it can't keep pace with the solid container's movement and so it spills over.
Step2
Begin by taking shorter steps to minimize this effect, but also gently move your mug from side to side as you move forward. This motion counteracts or "cancels out" the first effect rather nicely.
Step3
Takes a little practice; not much really. I like to move my container in a subtle figure eight pattern so it never stops at any instant.
