I direct this to people who are new to the game and I hope it helps keep people from doing something they will regret. The temptation to buy gold is hard to resist for some people but I encourage you to read from reputable websites and get information from a first hand account on what happened when someone bought gold. You will see players with unpronouncable names in your city advertising a website, just report them for spamming and be on your way. Keep in mind, it has been several months since Blizzard did a massive banning of over 100,000 accounts and I suspect another swing of the axe is coming very soon. Yes, they keep track of how much gold is on your toon. If you're playing then you have agreed to their TOS and EULA. Break it and your gone, you will have no means to plead your case.
Step2
Some players that have bought gold may get lucky and not get caught, but if you're caught, you lose everything. You would need to buy another copy of the game to play WOW again. How to avoid putting yourself at risk mainly involves one thing: how you conduct yourself with the time you have in game. Do not even engage in conversation with those who advertise they have gold for sale. Walk away and do not go to their websites. Just going to their website could install a virus or keylogger that would record your every keystroke. Also, never give out your account information to anyone.
Step3
Ask yourself: Is my account worth losing because I don't have enough gold in game? The copy of the game, ISP fee, and $15 a month times how many months you have played in addition to the money spent buying gold. (And if you're lucky, not becoming a victim of theft) Will the total amount of money spent outweigh the risk of permanently losing your account? Only you can answer that, I just hope you're aware of the consequences.
Tips & Warnings
Play and have fun, you're not playing if your account is banned. Money comes by doing quests and gathering professions. Focus on spending gold on your riding skill. Take only the gathering professions (sking/herbalist/miner/
fishing) for your first 2 or 3 toons, you can easily level a crafting profession when you're a 70 with lots of money. Don't waste money on gear, you really don't need to buy a thing. Gear is replaced quickly when you're leveling up and you're saving money if you don't buy gear or enchantments. Make a bank alt and send him stuff you collect with your mains, this way you save them a trip back to the city.
Fishing: only if you have the patience.
Don't have enough time in real life to play? You've got the time, just stay focused on your quests and be sure you're going to the right areas to level. Make 3 mains and play one while the others are resting in a inn, play them on "blue bar," which is twice the experience from each kill. Use the flight paths. Stack up your quests and read them carefully. Change your hearthstone to the inn closest to your quests. If a monsters are too tough then go to a spot where they are easier to kill and give experience. It boils down to how much experience you can earn in the amount of time played to level up quickly. You can kill one "orange" level mob that would take 5 minutes or kill 12 "green" mobs in that same amount of time, chances are you will earn more loot and experience from the latter.
Don't feel discouraged about not having gold, you will earn a lot if you save what you have and sell what you don't need.
