When you delete or move a message in the Thunderbird Email Client, like most Email clients, they do not handle their messages in a tidy way. The changes that you instruct the client to perform do occur, but many times the Client is simply making things disappear from view. Its kind of like if you were farming and had a great crop and at the end of the season you simply plowed over the area so that you could plant more crops on top. Unlike in farming where the things left behind are many times beneficial items. Items left behind by Email clients do not always nourish the soil for the next crop/message. Instructing your Email client to compact folders helps clean up the waste that is normally left behind while working with Email files. This article will show you how to setup Thunderbird Email to regularly compact your Email folders automatically. This will help your Email to run better.

on 5/30/2008 Yes, just remove the check mark under Disk space. If you prefer to do this manually thats alright, but just remember to compact your folders periodically so that your e-mail runs better.

on 5/18/2008 I would like Thunderbird to not only not automatically compact my folders but also to stop nagging me to do so just about everytime I delete a message.
Is there a way to stop both?
Thanks...nice article.
