How to Succeed in Business Without an MBA

An MBA has become commonplace within the past decade. It seems that every aspiring CEO has one or is in the process of getting one. Above and beyond the education, there are things you can learn outside of an MBA program that would help you succeed without the degree.

1. Join the Armed Forces like Henry Ross Perot, of Perot Systems Corp, and learn how to command and control large scale projects. This experience can be helpful and impressive in the business world, and it can help you succeed without an MBA, as it did for Perot.

2. Get in the field experience that helps you understand your particular business. This doesn't mean you have to literally work up to a higher position from the ground up, but in any business, a leader has more success when he has the same experience as any person under him.

3. Sell your work ethic and your fire for the business in any interview. CEOs and hiring managers may be looking for more than just a degree. If you show a real zeal for the business at hand, and have a record of working toward an entrepreneurial dream or passion, that may help you succeed without an MBA.

4. Go overseas to South America or Africa to succeed in business without an MBA. These countries need new perspectives to help them grow and flourish, not the classroom knowledge that an MBA provides.

5. Care about the work. No amount of degrees or certifications can help you succeed in business if you don't care about the job at hand. So, be a success, without an MBA, by loving the business you are in.

6. Network with people in high places. The old adage, it's not what you know it is who you know, came about for a reason. By getting in good with the higher ups in your company, or a company you want to work for, can make all the difference.
