How to Set Makeup After Application

Setting your makeup foundation immediately after you apply it is the easiest way to ensure that your foundation stays looking fresh until you are ready to take it off. Your makeup foundation is just that, the foundation of the rest of your look. Thinning, running, caking or color souring foundation ruins the whole effect of your makeup job. Instructions

1. Start the setting process and select the right foundation formula for your skin. Whether your skin is dry, oily or combination there are foundations formulated to work with your skin type. Your already on your way to successfully setting your makeup foundation when your foundation formula and your skin type work together.

2. Cleanse your skin prior to applying your foundation to rid skin of any excess oil that could defeat the foundation setting process.

3. Use a foundation primer, such as Smashbox Photo Finish to even skin tone and absorb excess oil. Applying foundation over a primer rather than directly onto the skin aids in the setting process. It prevents the skin from absorbing the foundation or from sloughing it off with excess oil.

4. Read the directions on your chosen foundation. Some formulas are meant to be applied with a sponge, some with a damp sponge, some with a brush and others with your fingertips. Apply your foundation according to manufacturer instructions to allow even coverage, which in turn allows the setting process to take place evenly.

5. Apply your foundation.

6. Dust a translucent powder over your foundation.

7. Use a sponge or puff to work the powder into the foundation, thereby sealing or setting the foundation on the skin.
