Instructions

Instruct your hairstylist to give you a haircut similar to Elvis Presley's hair. Let your hair grow a bit before seeing the hairstylist. Bring a couple of pictures that show Elvis' hair the way you like it best so the hairstylist has an idea of what you really want. Pictures of Elvis early in his career show a heavily greased, sculpted hairstyle while pictures from the 1970s show Elvis opting for a longer, shaggier look with pork-chop sideburns.

Dye your hair black. Although he had naturally blonde hair, Elvis had jet black hair with nary a grey hair in sight. He chose to dye his hair black as he thought he would look better on film. Use a shampoo and conditioner formula made for color-treated hair so your color stays richer longer.

Apply hair gel in keeping with the Elvis look you're trying to recreate. If you're going for young Elvis, use a comb to sculpt your hair and slick it back against your head. Brush the sides of your head to help slick it back. Some pictures show young Elvis with a few wisps across his forehead. Your hair should look shiny and virtually unmovable. Older Elvis looks call for a shaggier haircut using much less hair gel. In his later years, Elvis' hair looked looser and often fell down around his face during performances.

Let your sideburns grow long. Keep them neat with trimmers, so they aren't so long that they get out of control. Elvis is famous for his sideburn look throughout his career, especially the pork-chop sideburns he wore during the 1970s.

Maintain your hairstyle with regular cut and color appointments. Having hair like Elvis Presley requires a lot of work and upkeep but it is well worth the end result.
