Pokémon Silver and Gold add new nuances to the Pokémon badge quest. Different Pokémon are available in areas depending either on what day of the week it is or whether its night or day. New Pokémon types require strategic planning to be the ultimate Pokémon trainer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose Cyndaquil out of the 3 starter Pokémon. Fire types are rare in this game. A team based around Cyndaquil can easily defeat the first 2 gym leaders.

  2. Step 2

Train your Pokémon at every opportunity. A well-rounded Level 45 to 48 team can defeat the Pokémon League. Review Pokémon Walkthroughs found at either the Gamefaqs or IGN websites to find the Pokémon types that work best for battling the league. Although most FAQ's recommend an exact team, leveling a Pokémon from the same type will be just as effective. There are still some rare Pokémon that will make the journey easier.

  3. Step 3

Find Geodude along Route 46. Train with him for the first 4 badges. As a rock type, Geodude's powers can defeat the first 4 gym leaders.

  4. Step 4

Capture an Abra along Route 34. As this Pokémon evolves, its quick speed and special attack skills will make short work of most foes. Use 1 slot for developing his psychic abilities. This means losing teleport, but it won't be missed.

  5. Step 5

Purchase thunder punch, ice punch and fire punch at Goldenrod Department store. Equip your Abra with these.

  6. Step 6

Battle the Pokémon league with a team that has at least 1 Earth, Fire, Fighting, Psychic and Ice Pokémon. The league can also be defeated with an anchor approach. 2 Pokémons will stay in your team throughout the game. Level them to at least 55.

  7. Step 7

Choose other favorite Pokémon to round your squad. Between the two, the team approach is better. You can switch up Pokémon, depending on the battle's tide.
