Things You'll Need:
- Shadow box frame
- Basket or shallow container
- Photos
- Memorabilia
- Embellishments
- Adhesives
- Ribbon or fishing line
-
Step 1
Choose a theme before gathering the materials for your project. Build one around a special photo, memorable object or piece of memorabilia. You can also design a shadow box that suits the room where you'll hang it, like a frame to showcase a treasured family recipe for the kitchen.
-
Step 2
Find an object that you can use as the mini shadow box. Buy a pre-made frame or look for a shallow basket, small serving tray or pan that you can hang to become a ledge for dimensional objects (see Resources).
-
Step 3
Select the materials you'd like to include. In addition to the focal point object, consider decorative elements that pertain to the theme like swatches of fabric, handwritten notes, patterned paper or paper flowers.
-
Step 4
Arrange the items within the frame to achieve a balance of height and to ensure the main item is still the focal point. If you immediately notice one of the accents, consider rearranging the decorative items so they won't overshadow the most important piece.
-
Step 5
Affix the items to the box or frame with double-stick tape, adhesive dots or glue. If the item you're using as a frame has holes in the back (such as an open-weave basket or metal mesh container), you can also tie objects to it with a colorful loop of ribbon or nearly invisible fishing line.
