Learning to mambo is a fun and exciting activity, especially for dance enthusiasts or fans of the wildly popular "Dancing With the Stars" ABC program. It is a great way to socialize, spice up your relationship or feel sexier. The basic women's mambo steps are simple and can be learned by anyone who is ready to mambo.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand the basic rhythm of the mambo. It is based on 48-51 range and 4/4 (sometimes 8/8) beat counts. The counts are quick, quick, slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, slow. Once you have this rhythm under control, you can move on to the actual positioning and feet placement.

  2. Step 2

Learn the basic mambo positioning for the woman. You start with your feet together and know that you will stay within a small box on the floor. There is no line of dance with the mambo, as there are with other dances. As with all forms of ball room dance, the male is the lead and the female follows.

  3. Step 3

Start with your feet together for the first count. Move your right foot back (count two), left foot steps in place (three), right foot steps to the side slightly (four and one). Left foot forward a step (two), right foot step in place (three), left foot takes a small step to the side (four and one). This should put you back in the starting position.

  4. Step 4

Practice these moves until both partners are comfortable and are able to make the moves and steps without thinking too hard about them. It is good to continue counting, as beginners have an easier time when they count along out loud. You can also put the steps to the music to find the correct speed of the steps and movements.
