Sparklers are one of the more popular fireworks that are legal in all 50 states. Kids love to twirl the sparklers in the air and watch the light trail. To make a fantastic and memorable light display, make a torch out of several sparklers.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Duct tape
  • Several packages of sparklers (regular coated metal sparklers, not paper covered sparklers)
  • Matches or a lighter
  1. Step 1

Tear off a 3-foot piece of duct tape. Lay the tape, sticky side up, on the ground.

  2. Step 2

Open the packages of sparklers. Line the sparklers up, side-by-side, on the duct tape. Continue filling up the tape until only an inch of duct tape is left.

  3. Step 3

Roll the duct tape in a tight circle. Finish up by taping the one-inch piece of tape to the outside of the sparkler roll. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to add more strips of duct tape with sparklers lining the tape to the roll. Continue until the roll is the desired size.

  4. Step 4

Ease one sparkler into the middle of the sparkler roll. Allow this sparkler to extend 3 to 5 inches from the other sparklers.

  5. Step 5

Place the torch in an upright position in a safe location. Light the center sparkler in the torch. Walk away quickly and watch the light display from a safe distance.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is a law in most of the states that you have to be 18 before you can purchase fireworks from a vendor.
  • Never point or aim fireworks at anything or anyone. Sparks and fire can shoot from various fireworks up to 50 yards.
  • Adults should always supervise children with fireworks.
  • After the sparkler extinguishes itself, place the used wand into a bucket of sand or water, hot side down. Never touch the hot end of the sparkler wand; it is still very hot.
