How to Make a Soda Can Explode

Some people love finding out how to make a can of carbonated soda explode, sending the soda flying everywhere. Whether it's for a science experiment or you just like watching things blow up, there are numerous ways, though some may not be as successful or as viewable.

Instructions

1. Put the can in the freezer and wait. This may be the most well-known method, but, of course, you won't see the explosion. The soda can explodes because the water expands while freezing, not because of the gas.

2. Leave the can in a hot car and wait. This will work, despite what some myth busters may say. However, it will take days, you'll miss seeing it if you're not there at the right time, and it won't be fun cleaning the car.

3. Place the can in an open flame. This could very likely provide the largest explosion.

4. Drop the can from a rooftop, windowsill or ledge. Make sure it will land on a hard, solid surface like concrete, as a softer surface may cushion the blow.

5. Shake the can vigorously for about 2 minutes. Shake it up and down for 1 minute and side to side for 30 seconds. Then, jump up and down with it for another 15 seconds. Next, quickly open it up or throw it at a wall.

• Use a can of your least favorite soda so you won't waste a perfectly good drink.

• Always use extreme caution when trying something like this. Never do it inside. Wear protective gear like long sleeves, gloves and goggles, and make sure you're not hit in the face. You're dealing with flying metal, not just soda.
