How to Make Pumpkin Candles

As the beautiful season of autumn starts, it can be a lot of fun to decorate the inside of your home to match the colors and smells outside. Making fragrant pumpkin-shaped candles is a fun and easy project for the whole family. These easy pumpkin candles make excellent centerpieces, decorations and gifts and are a great way to bring the outdoors inside all season long.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the pumpkin candle molds and wicks before you start. Trim the wicks to a few inches beyond both sides of the mold. Some wicks come with metal tabs to help hold them in place. Either way, use masking tape to secure the wicks across the center of each mold by taping the bottom and top of each wick to the outside edge of each pumpkin mold.

    • 2

Use a double boiler method to heat up the wax. You can buy a wax pouring container to place the paraffin wax in so that you don't ruin your kitchen pots and pans. Just place the paraffin into the pouring container or metal pitcher and then place this container into a large pot filled with very hot water. The wax will be ready when it has turned completely to liquid, flows easily and looks clear.

    • 3

Add in pumpkin candle fragrance according to the directions. Also add your dye chips or liquid at this time and wait until the color and fragrance is completely distributed in the wax before your pour it into the mold. You can also add glitter or other decorative elements to the wax at this time.

    • 4

Close the pumpkin candle mold. There should be a hole in the top to pour in the wax. Make sure that the mold is sealed correctly before you pour to avoid a big mess.

    • 5

Pour the hot candle wax into the pumpkin candle mold carefully to avoid spilling. Use a wax pouring container or a metal pitcher with a pouring edge for best results. Pour the wax up to the top of the mold and then wait for it to set. The wax may shrink as it dries and you may need to reheat the leftover wax and pour more into the mold if this happens

    • 6

Wait for the wax to cool and harden before you remove it from the mold. This could take a few hours. Carefully remove the pumpkin candles and then trim the wicks to fit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hot wax can catch fire. Never keep wax near your stove burners or other heat sources.
