The Resident Evil games have frustrated many gamers and drawn criticism for their very precise control functions that are difficult to master. Newcomers to this survival-horror game series will need quite a bit of practice controlling the characters before they can play the games well.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Focus on learning and practicing the controls the first few times you play the game. The control stick is what you'll need to get used to most, so work on it, especially while holding the B button.
Step2
Use the default controller settings to start with. If you struggle with getting used to the default controls, you can then try and change the settings to improve your comfort.
Step3
Learn to use the control stick precisely. You move the character by pushing it forward, and you change direction by pushing it to the sides. So hold the stick straight forward. Once you're in the right direction, avoid tilting it so that you stay on course.
Step4
Avoid equipping weapons while you're practicing at first. You'll be faster and have better balance to start out with. Once you're used to the controls, begin practicing while carrying weapons.
Step5
Get used to your character's speed. Characters like Chris, Jill or Rebecca move at different speeds; some are faster than others. The character's speed will definitely affect the control of your character.

Tips & Warnings

  • Resident Evil 4 has received several reviews of improved player controls compared with its predecessors. Even gamers using the Wii Nunchuck controller have said they can get used to the controls fairly quickly.
  • Remember that the Resident Evil games are rated "M" for Mature. So make sure you're in the appropriate age group for playing these games.
