    Instructions

      • 1

Sign up for a princess pageant in your area. Complete all requirements, such as selling tickets or submitting essays, well in advance.

      • 2

Find the perfect dress. Shop at bridal and prom dress stores, online or in secondhand stores; or borrow something from an older relative. Make sure the dress fits well, covers you well for your age and complements your hair and skin tones.

      • 3

Choose a dress and shoes that sparkle to give you extra shine. Young girls often wear white or light pink to accentuate their cute feminine qualities, but you can choose any color you like to make you stand out from the other girls.

Break in your shoes before the princess pageant. Wear heeled shoes if you can walk gracefully in them, or wear flats. Practice walking before the pageant to make sure you won't trip on stage.

      • 5

Decide on a hairstyle. Go for a natural look--loose curls or up in a ponytail or a bun. You don't have to spend a lot of money to look nice. Make sure your hair is clean, soft and styled in a way that is appropriate for your age.

      • 6

Take care of your skin. You're young, but you can still moisturize, control blemishes and drink plenty of water to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

      • 7

Practice your talent and speaking. Choose a talent you're comfortable performing in front of a large audience such as singing, playing an instrument, dancing or reading an essay you wrote about growing up and making good choices.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Smile, not just during the pageant but everywhere. The more you smile, the more natural and friendly you will look on the day of the princess pageant.

    • Hire a pageant coach to help you learn poise and proper dressing and speaking. You don't need a coach, but if you have the means, hiring a professional can help you win.

    • Avoid common problems afflicting young females involving weight and beauty. You're young--you shouldn't be dieting and worrying about your weight. Play outside with friends, eat healthy snacks and enjoy pageants without feeling pressure to lose weight to win.
