You long for perfect locks--beautiful hair that shines and bounces. With the variety of user-friendly hair products on the shelves, you can choose products to color or highlight your hair, make it straight or curly and pull it back in style with beaded hair bands. Follow some easy techniques to turn your unruly mop into hair that turns heads.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Thumb through fashion magazines, paying attention to models and stars wearing a hairstyle you would like to try. Choose four or five photos and take them to your favorite hair stylist to get the perfect cut. If you don't have a stylist, try the nearest mall to get a great deal on a walk-in cut-and-dry.

  2. Step 2

Strip built-up waxes that accumulate on hair shafts by shampooing with a clarifying product for 1 week. After that, return to your favorite shampoos and conditioners, and they will have a renewed effect.

  3. Step 3

Deep-treat dry or damaged hair by applying a thick, creamy conditioner after shampooing, slipping a plastic cap over your head and applying a hot towel for 30 minutes. When the towel cools, hold it under very warm water and wring it out thoroughly before reapplying.

  4. Step 4

Allow your hair to air-dry whenever possible. Blow-drying takes a toll, so try to shampoo when you have the time to apply some pomade to damp tresses and let them dry naturally.

  5. Step 5

Use heat-protective products if you straighten or curl your hair with hot appliances. A spritz on each segment of hair before you wind it up on a hot roller will protect it and add shine and bounce.

  6. Step 6

Rinse chlorine out of your hair as soon as possible after swimming. Pool chemicals strip the protective emollients from hair, and if the chemical balance in the pool is off, you could end up with green hair.

  7. Step 7

Apply sunscreen to your hair just as you do your skin before spending a day in the bright sunlight. Spray-on hair protectors deflect harmful ultraviolet rays.
