How to Make a Good Impression on a Teacher

Every school year provides new opportunities and a clean slate. Even if your relationship with your teacher last year was mediocre, you can start off on the right foot this year by making a good impression.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Dress the part. There's something to be said for expressing your individuality, but showing up to class in dirty, ill-fitting clothes with you hair unkempt won't make a good first impression on your teacher. Appearances aren't everything, but they do count for something.
Step2
Arrive on time. Punctuality is a sign of respect and shows your teacher that this class is important to you.
Step3
Prepare for the day's lesson. Read all assigned text sections and complete all projects and homework so that you can answer your teacher's questions.
Step4
Bring your supplies with you each day. Even if you're the best listener in the world, it won't help you if you don't come to class with your notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators or other supplies. Impress your teacher by never having to borrow these supplies from your classmates.
Step5
Remain alert throughout class. You're there, you're prepared, now pay attention. Your teacher won't be impressed if he catches you nodding off or daydreaming rather than listening to the lesson.
Step6
Help your classmates. It's difficult for a teacher to be everything to every student all the time, so if your classmate is having trouble grasping a certain concept, offer your assistance. If you can help a fellow student, it frees your teacher up to help someone else.
Step7
Show gratitude. If you feel that your teacher's the real deal and that you're connecting with her and learning the subject matter, say "thank you."

Tips & Warnings

  • Even if you aren't a straight A student, your teacher will be impressed if you always try your best on classwork, homework and projects.
