Instructions

    • 1

Place 1 sheet of newspaper on a flat surface. Start on the narrow side. Roll the newspaper around the pencil or dowel rod. You can drop the pencil or dowel rod out after a couple rolls.

    • 2

Continue rolling the paper around the center core until you get to within 2 inches of the end. Add another sheet of newspaper at this point and continue rolling the newspaper. Be careful not to get the paper too loose or too tight.

    • 3

Add newspaper sheets until you have up to 8 in the bundle. Hold one end firmly in your nondominant hand as you proceed with the next steps. Or if you want to free both hands, you can bind one end tightly with a rubber band.

    • 4

Use the scissors to make 4 cuts into the roll of newspapers. Cut about 6-inches deep and try to make the cuts evenly spaced around the tube. If the newspaper roll is too tight to cut easily, you can also tear the newspapers.

    • 5

Hold the uncut end of the newspaper roll. Pull the inside out of the roll. As you pull the paper tree begins to emerge. The more you pull, the more branches grow on the tree. Your tree may even be 5- or 6-feet tall.
