How to Make Triple Chocolate Milkshakes

Milkshakes were introduced around 1890 as a nutritional supplement for children. In 1922, an employee of a Chicago Walgreen's took what was then called a "malted milk" and added a couple scoops of ice cream. The drink was an overnight sensation. Today, hand-dipped milkshakes, like this Triple Chocolate Shake, remain a favorite.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Chocolate ice cream
  • Milk
  • Brownies
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Whipped cream
  • Blender
  • Ice cream scoop

Step1
Place generous scoops of a good quality chocolate ice cream in a blender. Add cold, whole milk.
Step2
Cover the lid of the blender with a kitchen towel and hold the lid firmly in place. Blend the milk and ice cream on high until smooth, 20 to 30 seconds.
Step3
Remove the lid from the blender and check the consistency of the milkshake. Add a bit more milk for a thinner shake. Replace the lid and blend for a few more seconds.
Step4
Crumble two brownies into small bits. Add to the shake. Replace the lid and pulse the blender a few times to incorporate the brownie.
Step5
Pour the mixture into a tall 16 oz. glass. Pour in chocolate syrup over the top of the milkshake. Use a drinking straw to swirl the syrup gently through the shake.
Step6
Top the shake with whipped cream. Add another swirl of chocolate syrup and some chocolate shavings. Finish off with a maraschino cherry.
Step7
Add another scoop of chocolate ice cream, known as a "sidecar," to the rim of the glass. Serve immediately.
