Sometimes it's difficult to remove ice cubes from the tray. If you overfill the tray, the top may form an ice layer that makes it hard to pry the cubes loose. You can use several methods to get ice cubes out of the tray.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Twist each end of the ice cube tray in opposite directions. You should hear a cracking sound that signifies the ice cubes have loosened from the tray. Dump or pull each cube out individually.

  2. Step 2

Bang the tray against a hard surface. You should then be able to pull the cubes free.

  3. Step 3

Run hot water underneath the tray. This melts the ice holding each cube to the tray. Put a container under the tray to catch the ice cubes.

  4. Step 4

Pry the ice cubes out with a butter knife by cutting alongside them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't run hot water over top of the ice cubes to remove them from the tray. You'll melt them.
  • Don't use a steak knife to remove ice cubes from a tray. You can end up damaging the tray or hurting yourself.
