How to Do a Spin

Knowing how to do a spin correctly in dance makes the whole process easier. A spin is an easy move in dancing but can require some practice to get it just right. Practice in an area that is open and has a smooth surface that is easy to spin on.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Make sure that your shoulders are relaxed and your stomach is pulled in. This will help with your balance.

    • 2

Place your left foot out in front of you and move your right foot so that both of your feet are in line with each other.

    • 3

Raise your arms until they are parallel to the floor. Put your left arm straight out in front of you and your right out to the side. Your two arms will form a 90-degree angle from each other.

    • 4

Swing your arms from right to left and at the same time push off right foot. Maintain the same amount of space between your arms and that your right foot is tucked up near your left knee.

    • 5

Spin on the ball of your left food 360 degrees using the momentum created by the movement of your arms.

    • 6

Put your right foot back down behind your left foot. Your right foot may end up farther back than where you started.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your feet are bothered by the surface you are practicing on, trying practicing a spin with socks or ballet shoes on. These will protect your feet while you practice.

  • If you are having a hard time learning how to spin on a slick surface, move to carpet. This will give you more friction on the spin and allow you to practice a slower spin.
