Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Macaroni
- Butter
- Sharp cheese
- Salt
- Pepper
- Milk
- Casserole baking dish
- Aluminum foil
Step1
Boil desired amount of macaroni in a suitable sized pan until tender. Drain the macaroni and set it aside. If you prefer, you can first rinse it for less starchiness.
Step2
Cube or shred a sharp cheddar cheese until you have the necessary quantity. Slice butter to add to the cheese later.
Step3
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an appropriate sized casserole baking dish for the amount of old-fashioned macaroni and cheese you're making.
Step4
Spoon in enough macaroni to cover the bottom of the prepared casserole baking dish. Top macaroni with half of the cheese, butter, salt and pepper.
Step5
Add remaining macaroni, then top with the rest of the cheese, butter, salt and pepper. Pour milk over the top.
Step6
Cover the casserole baking dish with foil. Put it in the oven to bake for 30 to 40 minutes. 15 minutes before the dish is done, remove the foil to brown and crisp the top of the casserole.
