How to Make a Twister Friendship Bracelet

Make dozens of Friendship Twister bracelets with a handful of colors of embroidery floss. Create them with a friends' favorite colors, your school's colors or make her a set of bracelets to coordinate with everything in her wardrobe. Invite friends to get together for an afternoon of bracelet making. Have everyone bring 3 or 4 colors of embroidery floss and share.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 24-inch length of each color of the embroidery floss. Tie the three lengths together with a single knot about 2 inches from one end.

    • 2

Fasten the threads by hooking the knot under the clip on the clipboard or pin it through the knot to a piece of foam core or cork board. Gather all the lengths of floss into one bunch.

    • 3

Pull a single thread to the left side of the others. Pass the single thread under the others, loop it back over towards itself and push the end of the thread down through the loop that is formed. Slide the resulting knot up and tighten it. Make a row of knots about 1 inch long.

    • 4

Gather all the threads together and separate them into 3 bunches with 2 threads of each color. Smooth the threads. Braid the 3 bunches pulling it snugly. Make the braided part the same length as the knotted section.

    • 5

Separate another color single thread from the bunch. Make another row of knots. Make sure the first one is pushed securely up against the end of the braided section.

    • 6

Continue alternating sections of knotting and braiding until the bracelet is the desired length. Tie a final knot to secure the work. Leave a tail about 4 inches long to tie it to the friend's wrist.

    • 7

Practice knotting and braiding with the cotton floss. Smooth the fibers each time to keep the work even.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with different numbers of strands of floss. Try working with just or two colors.

  • Vary the length of the work to create necklaces, chokers and ankle bracelets.

  • Slide beads onto the threads at varying intervals, or at the end of each section of knots and braiding.
