Slumber parties are exciting events for preteen girls, but they take a little planning to ensure that the evening goes smooth. If your daughter is ready to host her first slumber party, do a little planning to make sure the evening is a success.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the number of guests you will invite. For preteens, keep the number small, around four or five friends. Make sure that you have an area that can accommodate all of your guests and their belongings.

  2. Step 2

Write out invitations with specific drop-off and pick-up times. Include a list of supplies that the child should bring, including a sleeping bag, pillow, pajamas and toiletries.

  3. Step 3

Talk to the parents of your guests and ask if there are any concerns about their child not being ready for a slumber party. Obtain a contact number in case you need to contact the parent about any issues. Inquire about any diet restrictions, allergies or health matters that you should be aware of.

  4. Step 4

Brainstorm with your preteen to come up with some activities for the evening. Be prepared with enough activities to fill their night, but be flexible if one of the activities is a big hit and takes longer. Good choices for girls this age include crafts, dancing, painting nails and watching movies.

  5. Step 5

Decide what type of food you will serve. Pick easy-to-eat food like pizza or sandwiches and include some cut-up vegetables and dip. Choose one or two snack items, like popcorn or chips, for late night munching and remember to purchase breakfast food and drinks.

  6. Step 6

Get ready for the big night by preparing any food and activities before the party's start time. Remove any unnecessary items from the room to create plenty of space for your guests and make sure that you have night-lights in different areas of the room and leading to the bathroom.

Tips & Warnings
  • Explain any house rules you have to the girls upon arrival and make sure everyone understands them.
