A front over in gymnastics prepares a gymnast for learning how to do a front walkover. In a front over, you begin in a handstand, move to a bridge and then stand up while making three distinct moves. This differs from a front walkover, in which all three moves are performed in succession with the feet apart to give the appearance of walking throughout the movement.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your feet apart and move into a handstand. Practice doing this until you are able stay completely still in a handstand position for at least three seconds.

  2. Step 2

Move into a bridge position. While in your handstand, make sure your feet are shoulder width apart and bring them over your head landing with your head still off the ground in a bridge position.

  3. Step 3

Rock back and forth in your bridge. This give you the momentum needed to stand up but it will also help strengthen and stretch your muscles. Do not attempt standing up from a bridge without a spotter until you are confident in the strength of your arms in a bridge.

  4. Step 4

Move towards your feet in your bridge to stand up. Rock forward and dig your heels into the floor. At the same time push off with your hands and push your hips forward into the air.

  5. Step 5

Envision a lasso around your waist pulling you up to standing. You want most of the power to come from the momentum of rocking forward and using your abdominal muscles to pull yourself up. Keep your head facing downwards and your eyes focused on your hands. Your hands will be the last thing that are pulled up, and they should end straight above your head.
