You can make a distinctive cigarette case from an old book. Once you master the technique of making the cigarette case, you can make a cell phone case or an iPod case using the same technique.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Old book
  • Exacto knife
  • Ruler
  • Clear plastic sheet
  • White glue
  • Small, disposable container
  • Paintbrush
  • Small, flat magnet
  • Small, thin piece of metal
Step1
Find an old book to use. You can use either paperback or hardback, but the book needs to be big enough to hold your cigarette package. An extra thick book provides extra cushioning as well.
Step2
Open the book flat on the table. Mark the dimensions you wish to make the cigarette holder with the straight edge of a ruler.
Step3
Apply firm pressure to cut the outline you marked in Step 2 with an Exacto knife. Cut two or three pages at a time until you remove enough pages from the book to make a deep enough well for the cigarette case. To keep the cuts straight, use the ruler as a guide.
Step4
Slip the clear plastic sheet into the book where you intend to keep the opening. Usually 10 to 20 pages into the book is sufficient.
Step5
Pour the white glue into a small container. Brush the glue onto the edges of the pages of the book. Don't get too much glue on the pages, just enough to hold them together. Set a weight on the book and allow the glue to dry.
Step6
Remove the clear plastic sheet when the book dries. Open the book and apply glue to the inside hole. Let that dry.
Step7
Attach a small magnet to the inside of the book. Also place a small thin piece of metal opposite the magnet to complete the closure.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you wish, you can paint the outside of the book.
