How to Pretend to Be Preppy and British
Pretending to be preppy and British can be an amusing gag for a day or two. Good clothes or a school uniform, a well-rehearsed accent and good posture are the most important adjustments required to trick your audience.

1
Research and refine a British dialect. The only way to learn is to listen and speak. There are dialect tapes available that can help you practice at home. Hanging around a real Brit for a while is one of the most effective ways to pick up an accent.
-
2
Learn some British slang and how to use it properly. Many movies (especially Hugh Grant films) can be useful in helping you to sound more authentic through colloquial language. Some common words are "brilliant," "beastly," "bloody" and "bugger." Listen for words that are muttered under your breath.

3
Sit up straight and stand with good posture. Americans are notable slouchers compared to Brits. Standing and sitting in proper alignment gives the appearance of being raised in a boarding or prep school, which is all very British.
-
4
Wear khakis and a Polo shirt or a plaid skirt and a Polo. When cold, wear a sport coat or cable-knit sweater. Make sure your shoes (never sneakers) are well polished. Aim to dress like you've got money but aren't impressed by it. Think country clubs, golfing or horse racing for an appropriate picture of what to wear.
-
5
Appear knowledgeable about history, government, politics (especially Parliament) and culture. Learn some facts about Britain and refer to them at opportune moments. Just don't do all the talking or someone is likely to find you out.
