The Auto Erase tool in Adobe Photoshop CS3 is used in combination with the eyedropper and pencil tools. A color can be automatically erased using a pencil set to auto erase mode by simply drawing over that color.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
Step1
Start Adobe Photoshop CS3 and open an existing document that contains a pixilated image or create a pixilated image on a new blank canvas.
Step2
Click to select the "Pencil" tool from the Photoshop toolbox on the left side of the screen. Notice that the properties for the Pencil tool are displayed at the top of the Photoshop screen, just beneath the menu bar.
Step3
Add a checkmark to the checkbox before the phrase "Auto Erase." This will set the pencil to auto erase mode.
Step4
Draw an image you would like to auto erase on the canvas, if you don't already have one.
Step5
Select the "Eye Dropper" tool from the Photoshop toolbox. Use it to click on the color in the pixilated image that you want to erase.
Step6
Choose the "Pencil" from the Photoshop toolbox once again. Use the pencil to draw over the color you have selected with the eyedropper tool. The color will start erasing the color you have chosen. The pencil will only erase the color that you have chosen so if you want to auto erase another color you will have to repeat the process.
