How to Get Internet on a Wii Without WiiConnect 24 Support

The Internet connection on the Wii console acts independently of WiiConnect24 for the most part, but all interaction with the menu occurs through WiiConnect24. However, WiiConnect24 Support refers to the connection of the Internet with specific games. If you are interested in connecting to the Internet without using WiiConnect24 Support, connecting is fairly easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your router is working correctly. Whether you use a wireless or wired router, use your computer's network tools to determine whether or not your router is functional before you go to the Wii.

    • 2

Connect the Ethernet cord to the Wii LAN Adapter on the Wii Console or turn on the wireless Wii router. Turn on the Wii and click on the Wii icon located on the main menu. Select "Wii Settings" on the subsequent menu.

    • 3

Select the second screen (click the 2 in the bottom right corner) and click on the Internet bar using the Wii Remote. Highlight "Connection Settings," and go to the first open connection slot.

    • 4

Choose Wired or Wireless Connection based on the modem you are connecting with. The Wii will attempt to connect to the Internet after you select the type of connection.

    • 5

Click "OK" once the connection is established. This connection now exists independently of WiiConnect24 Support. Your Wii is connected to the Internet which remains accessible as long as the broadband connection is running and all appropriate cords are connected.

Tips & Warnings

  • Troubleshoot if the connection isn't established. Repeat the steps and test that the modem is connected to the Internet and that any firewalls in your Internet Service Provider aren't interfering with a successful setup. For error codes, visit the Nintendo website to specify what type of error has occurred.

There is no way to disable wii connect 24, all you are doing is leaving the STANDBY mode not enabled. WiiConnect standby mode retrieves information while offline much faster, but utilizies more power and does the crazy blue light the entire time you are in standby.
