The "Print" field code command in Microsoft Word 2003 allows you to send data directly to the printer, bypassing Microsoft Word. This allows the data to flow straight from the document to your printer. To send printer commands from a Word document directly to a printer, follow the steps below.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2003

Step1
Start Microsoft Word 2003 and open an existing document or a blank document into which you want to insert a print field code.
Step2
Click the place in the document where you would like to insert the print field code.
Step3
Choose the "Insert" menu and click "Field" to open up a dialog box. The "Field" dialog box contains all the fields that can be inserted into a Word document, including the print field code.
Step4
Use the "Categories" drop-down list at the top left of the dialog box to choose "All," if necessary. All of the fields will display in the "Field names" list below the "Categories" drop-down list.
Step5
Scroll down the list and click "Print." The "Field Properties" will display on the right side of the dialog box.
Step6
Type the data you want to send directly to the printer after "Print" in the "Field Codes" dialog box. Surround the data with quotation marks.
Step7
Right-click the "OK" button to close the dialog box and insert the print field command into the Word document.
