How to Care for a Camera

Cameras allow you to record memories and events. However, a dirty and mistreated camera can ruin the images you want to keep. Take a few moments to properly care for your camera so you are prepared to catch that perfect shot every time.

1. Keep your camera dry. If you take your camera to places where it may come into contact with water or moisture, keep it in its case. For added protection, put the camera and case in a sealed, plastic bag.
2. Blow off any dirt, dust or sand from your camera before cleaning it with a cloth or wipe. Rubbing particles across your display screen, lens or viewfinder can scratch the surface and damage your camera.
3. Keep your camera out of intense, direct sunlight or hot areas. If you are traveling during the summer, keep your camera with you or in a bag instead of storing it in your car.
4. Cover your lens when you're not using your camera. This is the best way to keep your lens free of fingerprints and avoid damage and scratches from touching a dirty lens.
5. Remove the batteries from their compartment if you are storing your camera. Batteries can leak and permanently damage your camera. Blow out any dust or dirt from the battery compartment so your camera is in good working condition when you're ready to use it again.

• If you are planning a beach trip or going any place that you are likely to encounter lots of water and sand, consider purchasing a disposable, waterproof camera. You can still use your regular camera for off-beach shots, but rising tides and windy days make disposable cameras ideal.
