How to Become a PADI Certified Scuba Diver

Scuba diving is an incredible experience that allows you to see underwater life up close and in the natural environment that no aquarium could recreate. With the proper training and safety equipment, you could become a PADI certified scuba diver.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a local PADI certification class for scuba diving. Use the PADI website to locate the closest certification class near you. Contact the dive center offering the PADI class to find out what equipment you will need to provide. You will also need to purchase course materials, which often include book, video and dive log book.

    • 2

Acquire equipment. This usually includes snorkel, mask, fins, boots, gloves and hood. Since you are becoming a scuba diver to experience the sport, you should consider investing in good equipment that will last. Some of the best scuba dive equipment manufacturers are Cressi Sub, Aqua Lung and Akona.

    • 3

Register for an open water diving course. The cost of this will vary from region to region, but you can find information about your region by contacting a local dive shop or the PADI course instructors for your class.

    • 4

Complete the required dives and coursework. This will include classroom, swimming pool and open water sessions. Some courses may forgo the swimming pools sessions with open water versions. Swimming pool sessions are primarily used to learn the equipment. After completion to the instructors satisfaction, you will receive a PADI certification card.
