Polymer clay can be used in many projects, but one of the best ways to achieve a specific effect is to learn how to mix your own custom colors of polymer clay. Being able to blend polymer clay colors gives you far more options when you undertake a project.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the same brand of polymer clay for mixing unless you are mixing glitter or another type of material. Use the primary colors of red, yellow, blue, black and white to mix your own colors.

  2. Step 2

Revisit the basic color mixing theory of mixing primary colors to make purple, orange, and green by using equal parts of primary colors. Get a color wheel to help you choose. Cut equal portions of your polymer clay to mix, and then flatten them on your work surface.

  3. Step 3

Take both colors of polymer clay in each hand and squish them together until they blend.

  4. Step 4

Roll the resulting lump of polymer from Step 3 into a ball. At this point the two colors won't be completely mixed. Flatten your ball and fold it over onto itself 2 or 3 times.

  5. Step 5

Add bits of color to adjust the shade of the clay gradually. Adding large amounts of polymer can quickly turn your color to a muddy brown if you don't mix carefully.
