Applying yarn to a rain stick can impart a traditional, Native American look to your craft. The yarn can go on the rain stick in any pattern, and you can use a variety of colors. Wrap the entire rain stick in yarn, or just tie bands on the bottom.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Colored yarn
  • Glue
  • Feathers
  • Pebble beads
  1. Step 1

Gather the yarn. For a more natural rain stick, use yarn in white, yellow, beige and brown. For a more colorful stick, choose hot pink, neon blue and orange, red and purple.

  2. Step 2

Decide how to decorate your stick. You can wrap the yarn around the rain stick in a spiral, make a band on the bottom of the rain stick using three colors, create a variety of bands on the top, middle and bottom of the stick or wrap the entire stick with yarn.

  3. Step 3

Apply glue on the rain stick wherever you're going to put the yarn. Wrap the yarn around the stick in your design and cut off the excess strand. If you're wrapping the stick from top to bottom, use a rubber band to hold the yarn in place until it's wrapped. Continue gluing and wrapping with different colors until you get the desired look.

  4. Step 4

Braid 3 strands of yarn and tie the ends with a small elastic. Wrap the braids around the rain stick for a thicker looking band.

  5. Step 5

Tie a few strands of yarn around the middle or top of the rain stick. Attach feathers or pebble beads to the yarn.
