While all of the beads, accessories and supplies you need for your jewelry making hobby are available at your local craft or beading store, sometimes a personal touch is the best way to go. You can learn to make a tight wire coil which can be shaped into a variety of designs for your jewelry pieces. Coils can be used to create abstract shapes, spirals, circles, hearts, diamonds, triangles and other shapes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clear tape
  • Needlenose pliers
  • Pen
  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Craft supplies (beads, pendants, charms and jump rings)
  1. Step 1

Place a piece of clear tape on the tip of your needle nose pliers and make a mark with a pen which corresponds to the intended size of the coil. Grip the end of your wire with the pliers, lining the wire up with your pen mark.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the wire around the pliers, guiding with your thumb. When you have made a complete loop, push the loop up slightly so that you can continue wrapping your coil underneath, using the pen mark as a guide.

  3. Step 3

Continue coiling the wire until it is long enough to create your desired shape. Slip the coils off the nose of your pliers and cut off the excess wire. Form the coil into any shape with your fingers or the pliers.

  4. Step 4

Connect the ends of your coil by linking the end loops and closing the circles. You also can slip a jump ring through the final coils of either end and hang beads, a pendant, charms or another accessory to your coiled shape.
