Wire jewelry making is one of the most versatile ways to create your own fashion accessories. While there are a variety of wire types and colors for your craft, you also can recycle old wires, such as telephone wire, to create beautiful coil necklaces.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Telephone wire
  • Razor blade
  • Scissors
  • Clasp and loop
  • Pendant (optional)
  1. Step 1

Find a scrap of telephone wire. The kind of telephone wire required for this jewelry project is not the kind you attach to your phone, rather it is the type used on telephone lines outside. You can purchase this wire from hardware stores or ask your local telephone company for scraps.

  2. Step 2

Cut open the casing of the telephone wire carefully with a razor blade to reveal a number of small, colorful wires inside. Remove one piece of wire and cut a piece 2 and 1/2 times longer than your desired necklace.

  3. Step 3

Slip the loop end of your jewelry clasp onto the wire and double the piece of wire to find the center. Pinch the two ends of wire together around the loop and twist the two together tightly. The twist will create a coil pattern.

  4. Step 4

Continue the coil until your necklace is your desired length, or, if you would like to add a pendant, slip the accent onto the wire when you are about halfway done and continue to the end. At the end, slip both pieces of wire through the hook end of your clasp, and then twist the ends together to secure your unique piece of jewelry.
