For jewelry enthusiasts, wire jewelry techniques may be the most versatile means of creating your own distinctive accessories. Whether just beginning or an expert crafter of wire jewelry, a few simple tips can teach you how to create small diamond designs which can be used to make pendants, charms or accents for your jewelry.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clear tape
  • Needlenose pliers
  • Pen
  • Wire cutters
  • 4-inch piece of wire
  • Flat pliers
  1. Step 1

Place a piece of clear tape on the tip of your needlenose pliers, and then use a pin to mark 1 and 2 centimeters from the tip. This will help you to make the correct size loops for your diamond shape.

  2. Step 2

Use your wire cutters to cut about 4 inches of wire. When beginning, it is best to use pliable wire which is easier to work with. With time, you can make this diamond shape with more sturdy wire.

  3. Step 3

Grip the end of the wire with the tip of your needlenose pliers and guide the wire around the nose to make a small loop. Once the wires meet to complete the circle, remove the pliers. Grip the wire about 1 centimeter below the loop, placing the wire even with the first pen mark on the tape.

  4. Step 4

Guide the wire around the pen mark on the pliers, making a loop in the same direction as the first, and then release the loop and grip the wire about 1 centimeter below your second loop. Make another loop, using the first pen mark as a guide again, but wrap the wire in the opposite direction.

  5. Step 5

Leave 1 centimeter after the loop and move in the opposite direction. Make the fourth loop by moving the wire around the second pen mark. Leave about 1 centimeter and curl a loop in the opposite direction. Make two more loops using the same technique, this time returning to the first pen mark.

  6. Step 6

Complete your small diamond shape by adding another small loop to the end with the tip of your needlenose pliers. Use a flat pliers to flatten and perfect the diamond. Trim off the excess wire, and the piece is ready to add to your jewelry creations.
