Things You'll Need:
- Flour
- Wooden spoons (2)
- Rolling pin
- Gingerbread dough
-
Step 1
Flour the countertop or cutting board where you will roll the gingerbread dough. Place the dough in the center of the surface, and lightly rub flour on the outside of the dough.
-
Step 2
Rub flour onto the rolling pin, forming a protective non-stick coating.
-
Step 3
Flatten the dough somewhat with the palms of your hands. If the dough begins to stick, rub extra flour on your palms.
-
Step 4
Roll the dough further by alternating between rolling north-to-south and east-to-west. Stop when the dough is roughly 1/2 inch thick.
-
Step 5
Place a long handled wooden spoon on the left side of the dough with the spoon bowl facing away from you. Place the second wooden spoon to the right of the dough, facing the same way.
-
Step 6
Use the spoons as tracks on which to roll the edges of your rolling pin. If the spoons are too far apart for the rolling pin to reach, bring them closer.
-
Step 7
Roll the dough using the spoon handles as guides and you'll have a consistent thickness on your cookie dough, every time.
