How to Cut Onions for Cheese Bread

A good onion really makes your cheese bread delicious. However, you must cut the onions appropriately so that they do not take over the flavor of the bread and make it onion bread. Do it right, and you'll get great onion flavor in your cheese bread.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Onion
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  1. Step 1

    Select a small onion that has no blemishes. Place it on a cutting board.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the top and the bottom of the onion with a knife. Peel away and discard the skin of the onion.

  3. Step 3

    Cut the onion in half from top to bottom. You will only need 1/4 to 1/2 of the onion in this recipe. Put the rest aside for another recipe.

  4. Step 4

    Place the onion with the cut side down on the cutting board. Make thin slices all the way through the onion, holding them together with your fingers.

  5. Step 5

    Turn the onion 1/4 turn and repeat Step 4.

  6. Step 6

    Mince the onions by holding the tip of your knife down with one hand and moving it around with the other in a smooth chopping motion. Continue until the onions are as small as you want for the cheese bread.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try pulsing onions in a food processor for 30 to 45 seconds for a minced effect.
  • Always be aware of where your fingers are when using a knife. You must keep your fingers curled under when holding the onion.
